Metrics glossary

Each figure in the dashboard, and exactly how it is counted.

Metric definitions
MetricHow it is counted
VisitorsUnique visitors in the period. The visitor hash changes every half-year, on 1 January and 1 July (UTC), so someone who visits in both halves of a year counts twice.
SessionsVisits. A session ends after 30 minutes without activity, and the next event starts a new one.
Page viewsEvery page load, and every route change in a single-page app.
Average durationThe average time between the first and the last event of a session. A session with one event counts as zero. Sessions longer than four hours are left out.
Bounce rateThe share of sessions with exactly one event.
Scroll depthThe deepest point reached on a page, recorded in steps of 10%.
ClicksClicks, grouped by what was clicked: a button or link and its label, or the kind of element when it has none. Heatmaps also group them by the width of the visitor’s screen.
Funnel stepsSessions that complete the steps in order within the funnel’s window. A session counts at every step up to the furthest one it reached.
Custom eventsHow many times each event name you send was received.

Periods and comparisons

  • Every figure covers the date range you pick.
  • A comparison is against the period of the same length just before it.
  • Times are shown in the project’s timezone. Daily totals are UTC days.

What is never counted

Known bots, browsers that send Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, and your excluded IP addresses are never counted in any figure.
